Far-sighted Planners and Responsible Operators.
From the beginning, the planners and architects viewed the lock facilities as part and parcel of the hydropower plant. And that’s still the case today.

Consequently, money is not only invested in modernizing the hydropower plant itself but in the technical installations of the locks as well.
This is firstly because it is one of the conditions laid down in the Water Management License, but also because it permits the facilities to be operated cost-effectively. For example, the locks are computer-controlled, while the lock operator has an ultra-modern radar system at his disposal. This informs him of which ships are nearing the locks and enables him to make the requisite preparations. Once a ship is in the outer dock, a tense and fascinating spectacle begins.
