Hydropower is going to continue
to play a leading role in Swiss power supply. This is the message
that comes out of all the declarations and strategy papers issued
by the Federal
Office for Energy, Environment and Communications (UVEK).
Following the complete modernization
of its facilities, Birsfelden hydropower plant can look ahead to the
deregulation of the power market with confidence. It produces power
at an attractive price and covers all the basic needs of the entire
region from a local base. And since hydropower obtained the
“Ökolabel” environmental quality seal, demand for
emission-free, indigenous power is set to rise even further.
