The water level at the weir is 254.25 whatever the water flow, this level having proved the most efficient during tests at the planning stage. The impoundment reduced the head of water at the Augst-Wyhlen plant. However, the resulting loss in production is offset by the far higher output from the Birsfelden plant. Moreover, a slower water flow is better for shipping.
