Something Special.

Birsfelden hydropower plant is the twelfth hydropower plant on the Rhine between Lake Constance and the Swiss border near Basel. It’s also the largest in Switzerland. Its site is no coincidence. A variety of factors led to the choice of a site 163.83 kilometers along the Rhine.

Dominating the plant are the power house, a feature that’s visible from far and wide, and the six winding gear houses. The weir bridge serves as a bridge for cyclists and walkers between the Birsfelden and Basel sides of the Rhine. The island and lock facilities are popular attractions for the local inhabitants.
